Filming Day Three

As me and stef were getting more and more worried about our lack of footage, so during our lunch break we thought we, on our ownm, would  try and film more stuff towards our music video. After looking over the other footage which we had filmed we didn't think that there was enough footage for what we are truing to create.

We filmed mainly in three different locations, behind the school gym, in the graveyard near our school and by the field. I mainly filmed Stef singing the song and some still shots. We weren't able to film as much as we wanted as I had lesson  and I had to rush back to class, but we got quite a lot more footage, which will defiantly helped me when editing.

Here is a blog and some pictures of our day.

Location

In our music video we shot many of the scenes at and around school.
Using the brick walls on the exterior of the building as a back drop to our artist singing, we'd seen this in many different music videos, as we have limited resources of locations. When we filmed in Shoredich against an colourful art piece we found it difficult as our filming was constantly being interrupted from people walking in front our camera, therefore making what we had filmed unusable. Therefore being in a controlled environment/isolated we did not have issue and could film freely, also if needing to re film it is easily accessible.

Narrative Story

We looking over our footage we found that it felt empty, and lacked cohesion. We decided that the music video needed some sort of narrative to give to depth. We started to search words on tumblr that we associated with the song. The reputation of the term 'suffocating', stood out to us as a group, therefore we chose to use it as a time. We came up with an idea of having a bath/death element to the music video. We thought to have short clip, cut into the music video throughout. The turning on of a bath nozzle, the water running, the bath being full, underwater shot of from instead the full bathtub and the final shot of stef full clothed and head going under the water. We thought that this narrative would create more of focus rather than a string of shots.

Indie Genre Mood Board

Today in the break I decided to make a story board on my own of what sort of tone I would like our music video to follow. The following photos I found after searching various of key words from the lyrics of our song and the tone I felt it connoted. All collected through the website of Tumblr, this is mostly used by young teenagers and young adults which would be our target/primary audience therefore it was useful as it gave me an inside into what is expected or associated with certain key terms.

Framing and Composition- Different Types of Shots

Full-  A full shot shows the entire subject's body from head to toe. It's used to give a subject context in their setting. In the video above we see Guy Silagi standing outside on a sidewalk and with that information we can see how he's physically relating to his surroundings. Full shots are sometimes used as establishing shots. An establishing shot tells you where the story takes place, also known as the setting.

Medium - A medium shot shows the subject from about the hips or waist up. It's useful for a when a subject is conveying information and it still allows you to still see them interacting with their environment. With a medium shot the setting has already been established in prior shots and more emphasis is being placed on the subject.
Close - A close shot, also called a close up, focuses on the subject's face. As noted in the video above, you don't want to give too much headroom, bring the shot in close to show the head, neck, and a bit of the shoulders. This type of shot places emphasis on the subjects facial expressions to help convey the emotion in a story. If you zoom in even more you can get what's called an extreme close up. For example, a shot of a subjects' eyes or mouth will show and emphasize an expression during an important moment.

Final Storyboard

Filming Day Two

So the other day we decieded to try and film the shots against some wall art. We went to Shoreditch  and Bricklane to try and find some places to film. We ran into some unexpected surprises on the day and it sort of hindered our plan... Here is a short vlog summery of our day.
